President of the Presidency of Defense Industries Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir examined the first domestic MR device, the prototype of which was developed by ASELSAN and Bilkent UMRAM. Demir, who made a statement about the contributions of the defense industry to the health sector, said, "In addition to this MRI device, ASELSAN continues to work on artificial respirator, heart-lung pump, mobile X-Ray device and portable defibrillator. In addition, as the defense industry, our R&D studies on patient care, diagnostic kit, data and image processing continue."
President Demir, accompanied by ASELSAN Chairman and CEO Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, visited Bilkent University UMRAM (National Magnetic Resonance Research Center). During the visit in the presence of Bilkent University Rector Prof. Dr. Abdullah Atalar, President Demir received information about the studies and examined the domestic MRI device developed by ASELSAN and Bilkent UMRAM together.
SSB President Demir made a statement about his visit and the defense industry's work on health technologies. In his statement, Demir said:
"We have been continuing various projects in terms of multiple use of technologies developed in the defense industry. With the pandemic the work in the health sector has come to the fore. The first example of this was the introduction of a respirator. With the initiative pioneered by our Ministry of Industry and Technology, an SME company and two large defense industry companies came together to produce a respirator and the success of this is now being seen. But that's not all there is to it."
"There were 5 more devices that ASELSAN was already working with. In addition to this MRI device, ASELSAN continues to work on artificial respirator, heart-lung pump, mobile X-Ray device, and portable defibrillator. Again, within the body of our Presidency, work on ultraviolet disinfectant issues, the development of both masks and other products continues rapidly."
"In addition, there are a few other topics triggered by the defense industry as an R&D title. At the beginning of these are our studies where technologies related to patient care and monitoring are developed. Again, there is work on patient diagnosis and data kit creation. On the other hand, there are technologies that reveal approaches to data processing, image processing, methods to be developed with intelligent systems and deep learning. It is possible to say that these are multiplied.
"Because the technologies applied here also include the application of some basic technologies developed in the defense industry, as well as the direct effects of the developed technologies on defense. In the field of defense, we have seen a field where joint work will be created in the health sector regarding the problems of our soldiers and security forces and the electronics, data processing, image processing and programming techniques learned. Health can be thought of as the beginning of these multiple uses and issues that are brought to the agenda of the public due to the fact that they are on the agenda now. However, in addition to this, contact with various units of the government regarding energy, various sensitive facility and system protection works, monitoring and automatic control of various distribution systems, communication systems, and the cyber security area, communication area, and the multiple use of technologies in various fields. our work continues.
“In addition to ASELSAN, which started out with these five products in the field of health, we will soon see the results of its work with other companies related to software systems and various data processing and image processing systems. We see that the important thing here is to keep the issue of a National Technology Move hotter on the agenda of the country and to ensure the multiple use of technologies in every field developed in the country and to take a fast path. Hopefully, we will continue this with close cooperation with the defense industry as well as with other industrial fields.”
“One of the main elements of this is to bring science and technology together, to carry it out together and to put it into practice. As you know, research institutions and universities are the home of this. Bilkent University UMRAM, which we are currently under, and various research centers are among the structures that we cooperate closely with. We continue to work with various universities in this regard. So information and technology will come. We continue to invest in this future together with our young people. I hope the defense industry will continue to pioneer this."
