Modern battlefields demand not only firepower but also absolute certainty in identification. Mode 5 introduces advanced modulation and robust cryptographic techniques that significantly enhance the resilience of IFF systems compared to legacy modes. By employing spread spectrum transmission, Mode 5 enables encrypted data exchanges to be carried over existing ATC frequencies without causing interference, ensuring smooth interoperability with civilian air traffic systems. Unlike earlier modes, Mode 5 provides two levels of encryption: Level 1 for basic secure identification and Level 2 for extended encrypted data exchange, including altitude, position, and mission-specific information. These enhancements deliver a much higher probability of correct identification, even in dense or contested electronic environments, while also reducing vulnerability to spoofing or deceptive signals.


A cornerstone of ASELSAN’s leadership in this domain is its development of the M5K-II Mode 5 crypto applique, an indigenous encryption module that makes Türkiye one of the very few nations with sovereign Mode 5 crypto capability. Fully compatible with all IDENTIFFY devices, the applique secures both interrogations and responses, ensuring trusted communication between platforms and safeguarding the integrity of critical air defense operations.


Beyond encryption, ASELSAN provides a wide spectrum of technical configurations, including mechanically rotating and electronically scanned antennas, standalone systems for mobile operations, and cabinet-based solutions tailored for naval applications.
