ŞAHİN: PRECISION ENGAGEMENT AGAINST EMERGING AERIAL THREATS

The rapid proliferation of mini and micro unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has significantly transformed the operational environment, creating new and complex security challenges. These platforms, often characterized by their small size, low radar visibility, and high maneuverability, can be difficult to detect and even harder to neutralize using conventional air defense systems. As their accessibility and capabilities continue to expand, there is a growing need for dedicated counter-UAV solutions that are both precise and cost-effective. ŞAHİN has been developed to address this requirement, providing an effective response to short-range aerial threats.

At the core of ŞAHİN’s capability is its use of 40 mm programmable airburst ammunition (ATOM), which introduces a highly efficient engagement method against small and agile targets. Unlike traditional direct-hit systems, ATOM ammunition is programmed at the moment of firing to detonate at an optimal point along its trajectory. This controlled airburst creates a fragmentation pattern in close proximity to the target, significantly increasing the probability of a successful engagement. The system’s fire control unit combines ballistic computation with real-time tracking data, ensuring that each shot is calculated for maximum effectiveness.

ŞAHİN is equipped with advanced electro-optical and infrared sensors that enable accurate detection and continuous tracking of targets under varying environmental conditions. These sensors provide high-resolution imagery, supporting both identification and engagement processes. In addition to its onboard capabilities, the system can be integrated with radar and command-and-control networks, allowing it to operate as part of a wider, layered air defense architecture. This network-enabled structure enhances situational awareness and enables coordinated responses to emerging threats.

A key strength of ŞAHİN lies in its hard-kill capability, which physically neutralizes aerial threats. While electronic warfare solutions such as jamming are valuable, they may not always guarantee the elimination of UAVs, particularly in the case of autonomous systems. ŞAHİN complements these approaches by ensuring direct and reliable threat neutralization. This layered defense concept increases operational effectiveness and minimizes the risk posed by persistent or resistant targets.

Designed with flexibility in mind, ŞAHİN can be deployed in both fixed and transportable configurations, adapting to a wide range of mission scenarios. It provides robust protection for critical infrastructure, military installations, and strategic assets, while also offering a rapid deployment capability to meet the requirements of dynamic operational environments. Its efficient use of ammunition and scalable deployment options contribute to a sustainable and cost-effective defense solution.

By combining smart ammunition, advanced fire control, and network-enabled operation, ŞAHİN represents a forward-looking approach to counter-UAV defense. It addresses one of the most pressing challenges of modern security environments, delivering reliable and effective capability for the protection of both military and civilian domains.
