The protection of armored vehicles has gained utmost importance since anti-tank missiles, anti-tank guided weapons and related warheads were used for the purpose of destroying armored vehicles on the battlefields. It became evident that the conventional means of protection like armor and cages fall short in protecting the platforms against the evolving threats and asymmetrical warfare conditions. ASELSAN, the Radar and Electronic Warfare (EW) Center of Turkey, with its extensive knowledge and experience accumulated from the field applications, has indigenously designed and developed AKKOR Active Protection System (APS) to ensure the security of the wheeled or tracked platforms against the above-mentioned threats.
ASELSAN's AKKOR is already deployed on the first two Altay Main Battle Tank and scheduled for all the new productions in the coming years, marking a new era in armored vehicle defense. This cutting-edge system will also be integrated into the upgraded Leopard 2A4 tanks and the newly developed ALTUĞ light armored vehicles, enhancing their survivability and operational effectiveness. As the system begins its serial deployment in 2025, AKKOR will undoubtedly set new standards for active protection systems, reshaping the future of armored warfare.
ASELSAN’s AKKOR, equipped with both hard-kill and soft-kill munitions as an Electronic Warfare (EW) suit, has the capability of impeding all kinds of threats severely indented to the armored vehicles with an optimum time and distance range from the platform. The hard-kill system provides protection against multiple threats regardless of the direction.
With 360-degree full protection coverage against not only conventional but also emergent and potential asymmetric threats in the operational environment, AKKOR has also the capability to be integrated on various types of armored vehicles to increase the survivability of the platform. The system is fully operational under severe environmental battlefield conditions such as dust, mud, rain, snow, fog thanks to the fully RF, optics-free hard-kill solution.
AKKOR is composed of:
Having direct integration with other subsystems of the platform, AKKOR can provide indispensable situational awareness via the platform’s Graphical User Interface. AKKOR provides Soft-Kill protection against all types of laser guided missiles and thermal visioning systems by means of multispectral smoke screen. The suit can be integrated into multiple types of vehicles thanks to its modular design, allowing for the best possible protection to each platform.
ASELSAN’s AKKOR Active Protection System is more than a technological achievement; it is a new benchmark for the very few companies worldwide to achieve APS level of innovation, by integrating AKKOR into its armored fleets, Türkiye not only shows commitment to innovation and self-reliance in defense but also enhances the survivability of its military assets.
